UK Holiday Boom

ExploreResearch.co.uk has reported that one in three of 520 adults took a Summer Holiday in the UK according to research for the Travel Weekly. This report comes out amid government attempts to boost the domestic sector.

The research showed that three out of four people (of the 530 adults surveyed) had taken a holiday over at least one night in the UK, other than staying at a friend or families house.

Using part of a £2 million fund set aside by the government is being used for the VisitEngland TV Campaign that they hope will urge consumers to book holidays in the UK.

The research for Travel Weekly shows that most of the summer holidays in the UK were taken by adults aged between 35 years old and 54 years old with 42% of them taking their UK holiday between June and September.

It seems that younger adults (aged between 18 years old and 34 years old) take more UK breaks throughout the whole year and not  just the summer months.

The shorter summer breaks seem to be more popular with 2 out of 5 adults going away in the UK for two to three nights, one in five adults are taking UK holidays of four to six nights while one in four adults are taking one week holidays in the UK and just one in six adults are taking holidays for longer than a week.

We spoke to Joe Folkes, Director of Allens Caravans. Allens Caravans have eight holiday parks in the UK along with four holiday and touring parks. We asked Joe what he thought of this research.

We have seen both a raise and fall in uptake of domestic holidaying at our hire fleet parks. The fall has come from some regular UK holiday makers struggling to take their holiday in recent years, whereas we have seen a raise in the new customers that have found UK breaks much more economical than abroad.

As such year on year we are increasing the size of our hire fleet, but at the same time trying to hold any on prices, many of our prices for 2012 were in fact decreased for that reason.

We continue to invest heavy in our Parks to attract new customers which perhaps have never looked closer to home. Leedons Park for example holds 9 hire units and sees a new complex open for 2013, housing a large indoor pool, game room, social hall and outdoor bowls green.
